PPE decoration — four sides, per-worker variable data.

Hard hats, helmets, and personal protective equipment decorated at production speed with per-helmet personalization.

Personal protective equipment decoration has changed. Customers want corporate branding AND per-worker personalization (names, titles, crew IDs) on the same shell — printed directly, not applied as a sticker. EPS engineers XD-platform single-pass cells with servo-controlled rotational fixturing that decorate all four surfaces of a hard hat in one sub-60-second cycle, with full variable data per helmet at no cycle-time penalty.

What we mean by Hard Hats & PPE decoration

Multiple colors. Multiple surfaces. Variable data. Production volume.

Workforce safety helmets and PPE shells sit at the intersection of three trends that broke the traditional decoration workflow: brands keep adding corporate color variants, customers want per-worker personalization (names, titles, crew IDs) printed directly rather than applied as a vinyl decal, and end-customer expectations have moved from spot-color logos to full-color brand graphics. Pad printing, screen printing, and after-market decal application — the conventional process — needs plates, films, screens, ink mixing, and a changeover between every color and every surface. A four-color, four-sided helmet historically routed through multiple stations with the part being repositioned (and re-registered) at each one.

EPS engineers XD-platform single-pass inkjet cells purpose-built for PPE shell decoration. High-precision servo-controlled rotational fixturing presents the helmet to a fixed six-head production printhead bank, indexing the part automatically through four surface locations between print passes. No plates, no films, no ink mixing, no operator changeover between print locations. Multiple pretreatment options (plasma, corona, flame) selectable per substrate handle ABS, HDPE, and polycarbonate shells on the same line. Cure is inline LED-UV, pinning each color before the next surface is indexed under the heads.

PPE decoration sub-applications

Five PPE decoration families EPS systems handle today.

Different decoration content, different end markets, same underlying XD-platform cell architecture.

Corporate Workforce Personalization

Per-worker names, titles, crew IDs, and ID numbers printed directly on the helmet shell — no vinyl decals, no separate label-application step. Variable data per helmet at no cycle-time penalty.

Brand & Corporate Identity

Corporate color variants, brand logos, and customer-specific graphics across the SKU mix. Software-driven SKU changeover — new brand variant is a job-load operation, not a mechanical reset.

Construction & Trades

Workforce safety helmets supplying construction, energy, utilities, and heavy-industrial end customers. High-volume per-customer programs with frequent design refreshes across the brand family.

Compliance & Certification Markings

ANSI/ISEA compliance markings, certification dates, manufacturer identification — printed at production speed with full traceability per helmet.

Multi-Substrate PPE Programs

ABS, HDPE, and polycarbonate shells decorated on the same line — pretreatment selectable per substrate (plasma, corona, or flame) without re-engineering the front end.

Featured customer

A leading North American manufacturer of workforce safety helmets.

EPS deployed an XD-70 single-pass inkjet line for a leading North American manufacturer supplying construction, energy, utilities, and heavy-industrial end customers. The system uses high-precision servo-controlled motion to present a single helmet to a fixed six-head production-grade printhead bank, indexing the part automatically through four surface locations between print passes. Full four-sided, full-color decoration completes in under 60 seconds — every helmet on the line capable of carrying unique variable data (name, title, crew, ID) without slowing the cycle.

Recommended EPS platforms for PPE decoration

Three platforms cover most PPE shell decoration.

Pick the cell that matches your SKU mix and decoration complexity. EPS engineers the rotational fixturing and pretreatment around the substrate.

XD-70 with Rotational Fixture

Single-pass · 6-head bank · servo indexing

The hard hat platform. Servo-controlled rotational fixture presents each helmet through four surface positions; six-head printhead bank lays white + CMYK at 10 mm working throw distance across the compound curve. Inline LED-UV cure between surfaces.

FJet 24 — Multi-Pass UV Inkjet

Short-run multi-color · variable data

For shorter-run PPE programs where single-pass capex doesn't pencil, multi-pass UV inkjet delivers full-color decoration with SKU agility. Specialty PPE, R&D, and lower-volume customer programs.

KE16 Servo Pad — High-Volume PPE Branding

Large-part servo pad · 4-color process

For high-volume PPE branding with stable artwork — corporate logos, certification marks, fleet branding — the KE16 servo-electric pad printer handles large parts like appliance panels and hard hats with 20GB job storage and independent multi-color pads.

Why EPS for Hard Hats & PPE

Four engineering decisions that separate PPE cells from generic helmet printers.

What EPS puts in a PPE decoration cell that pad-print-only or screen-only workflows can't match.

Servo rotational fixturing

Four surface positions presented to a fixed printhead bank via predefined position presets. No operator intervention between indexes. Eliminates the multi-station, multi-registration workflow of pad/screen/decal approaches.

Multi-substrate pretreatment options

Plasma, corona, or flame — selectable per substrate. ABS, HDPE, and polycarbonate shells run on the same line without re-engineering the pretreatment stage.

Six-head production printhead bank

White + CMYK in a single bank, stationary heads, helmet rotates underneath. No carriage travel time, no per-color cycle hit, no multi-station registration drift.

VDP at line rate

Per-worker names, titles, crew IDs, ID numbers printed directly with no cycle-time penalty. Eliminates the vinyl-decal application step that traditional PPE personalization required.
