Syringe-barrel decoration is one of the highest-volume direct-to-object printing applications in the world. Every barrel needs sharp, repeatable graduation marks and a latex-free or product identifier — wrapped 360 degrees around a 10–40 mm diameter, 70–100 mm long clear plastic cylinder — at production rates that scale with vaccine and drug-delivery demand. Manual or semi-automatic pad-print stations historically capped throughput at a small fraction of what the upstream molding line could deliver, with operator load/unload as the practical bottleneck.
A pandemic-scale syringe program (hundreds of millions of doses, each requiring its own marked barrel) cannot run on a station where the bottleneck is human hands on parts. The decoration step needs to keep pace with the bulk-fed output of the upstream molding line, with no operator touch on the part between bulk-in and decorated-out — and the whole cell needs to be acceptable inside a clean-room envelope.

EPS deployed the XRV rotary pad-print line — purpose-built for high-speed syringe decoration. Bulk syringes load into a stainless-steel hopper, drop through a phonic-hooded vibratory infeed, and are singulated through an aligned conveyor track. The aligned parts feed onto a rotary table that indexes each barrel past the print head, where an eight-sector rotary pad head transfers an inked image from a continuously rotating ø 100 mm steel cliche drum onto each syringe — every barrel decorated 360 degrees around its body in a single index, without re-fixturing.
The print head is fed by an integrated ink-recirculation and automatic ink-mixing pump, so the line can run extended production batches without operator intervention for ink dilution or color-density adjustment. An inline hot-air cure stage pins each print before the syringe leaves the rotary table, and the freshly-decorated parts are automatically offloaded for the downstream filling, assembly, and packaging steps.
The entire frame is stainless steel and aluminum and is rated for placement inside a clean-room environment. Full-perimeter safety guarding built to CE standards, a carbon-active fumes aspiration filter, an automatic and programmable pad-cleaning device, and a touch-screen HMI complete the package — so an operator running a vaccine-scale campaign manages set points and exception alerts rather than physically handling parts.

Bulk Infeed
The operator loads bulk syringes into a stainless-steel hopper feeding the phonic-hooded vibratory infeed. No individual part handling required — the line takes the bulk-molded output from the upstream cell and routes it through the decoration step without intermediate sorting or operator touch.

Vibratory Feed and Transport
Syringes singulate through the vibratory infeed and travel along an aligned conveyor track to the print station. The phonic hood contains the vibrator noise; the aligned track presents each barrel in known orientation to the rotary table.

Rotary Table to Print Station
A rotary table receives the aligned syringes and indexes each barrel to the print head at automation speed inside the full-perimeter safety enclosure. The rotary geometry is what lets the line run at the print head's mechanical limit rather than at operator handling speed.

Pad-Print Station
A continuously rotating ø 100 mm steel cliche drum, inked through the recirculating pump system, presents the image to the eight-sector rotary pad head. Each pad sector picks up the inked image from the drum and carries it around to the syringe — eight sectors per pad revolution means eight syringes decorated per pad cycle.

Pad Transfer onto the Syringe
The silicone pad presses the inked image onto the rotating syringe barrel, wrapping the graduation marks and identifier 360 degrees around the body in a single index. No second-pass station, no re-fixturing — the entire decoration is laid in one pad-to-barrel contact.

Cliche Drum + Pad in Operation
The cliche drum, ink cup, and pad head turn in continuous synchronization. The rotary cycle that lets the line run at full production speed — print head running at its mechanical limit, ink supply self-replenishing, pad cleaning programmed between batches.

Inline Cure and Decorated Output
An inline hot-air cure stage pins each print before the syringe rotates off the table to automatic offload. From bulk infeed to decorated-and-cured output, no operator hands touch the part. The decorated syringe leaves the line with crisp 360-degree graduations and a latex-free or product identifier — ready for the downstream filling, assembly, and packaging steps.
