Selecting the right inkjet printer requires matching your operational needs to the appropriate machine configuration. Key decision factors include image quality requirements, production throughput, part dimensions, substrate type, and color specifications.

Single-pass for high volume

For high-volume operations requiring minimal manual handling, single-pass inkjet printers deliver print speeds up to 14 inches per second with resolutions reaching 720 dpi. These work best for inline applications, particularly when pre-treatment is necessary.

Flatbed for higher resolution

Flatbed printers offer an alternative for those prioritizing resolution over speed. They accommodate resolutions up to 1200 dpi and work well with smaller identical parts placed in machined trays, using vacuum platens for flat stock printing.

Operator controls and color systems

Both technologies allow adjustments to print speed, ink density, droplet size, head height, and color values. Process-color printing on dark substrates requires a white base layer first, and both options support clear-coat applications for protection or gloss enhancement.

Monochrome and spot-color printing are possible, though color changes require machine flushing. Most industrial systems use bulk ink tanks rather than cartridges to reduce consumable expenses.

Modern machines often include graphic-design software capabilities for on-press modifications and job storage, with many supporting remote access for job entry and diagnostics.
